2008 Commuter Challenge Rules

By entering the Commute Solutions Month Commuter Challenge, the participant acknowledges that he/she has read and understands the following rules, terms, and conditions:

Sponsors:
The Commute Solutions Month Commuter Challenge is hosted by the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), a government Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The challenge is sponsored by the Commute Solutions Coalition of Central Texas, a partnership of local governments, businesses and organizations. To see local partners visit www.commutesolutions.com/partners.html.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Commuter Challenge is to promote using Commute Solutions (alternatives to driving single occupant vehicles) on the daily commute to and from work, during lunch, and/or on business-related meeting commutes. These Commute Solutions include:

  • Carpools - Two or more sharing a ride in a personal vehicle
  • Vanpools - Approved employer or Capital Metro vanpool groups
  • Riding the Bus
  • Biking
  • Walking - Walking, or using a wheelchair or other handicap device to get to work
  • Teleworking - Working from home or a satellite office near the home
  • Unique Commute Solutions - Off-street, manual/electric, & sidewalk-legal means of commuting! (e.g. rollerblading/skating, skateboarding, unicycling, off-street scooters, rowing, etc.)
  • Single-occupant vehicles are ineligible, including single occupant motorcycles, Segways, street scooters, and hybrid/electric vehicles.
  • Compressed Work Week - When an employee is off one day a week due to working longer hours on days prior (e.g. working a week of four 10-hour days with one day off). Participants may credit their day off as the Commute Solution for that day.
  • Lunch On Site - Having lunch on site, without leaving the office
  • Teleconference Meetings - Calling or logging into a meeting via office or home without having to commute to the meeting.

    Eligibility:
Participants must live and/or work in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis or Williamson Counties. Qualified participants must use at least one Commute Solution for one of the following three commute categories:
    - The daily work commute (home-work-home commute, round trip)
    - The daily lunch commute
    - One daily business commute (to a business meeting, conference, errand, etc.)

Participants must agree to the Commute Solutions Coalition and CAMPO to using their names for publicity for the www.commutesolutions.com website, radio and print advertising and publications. This will only apply to prize winners.

Participants must agree to CAMPO and Commute Solutions Coalition partners use of participants' names, contact info, employer, and commute data for the purpose of related employer award programs for Commuter Challenge participants. Participant contact and email information will not be made public.

    Ineligibility:
Partner representatives of the Commute Solutions Coalition of Central Texas, those who have attended a Commute Solutions Coalition meeting in the last year, those who have staffed a Commute Solutions Fair or Commuter fair in the last year and their immediate families, domestic partners or household members are not eligible for prizes. They are highly encouraged, however, to join the Challenge.

    Time Frame:
    The Commuter Challenge runs from Tuesday, October 9, 2005September 2, 2008 at 12:00 a.m. through Sunday, October 22, 2005September 21, 2008 at 11:59 pm.

    To Enter Challenge:
Go to www.rcride.com and click on the Commuter Challenge button. If you have no access to the web, contact Commute Solutions Staff at 512.974.2778 2529. Challenge participants may enter their Commute Solutions daily, multiple times a week, or all at once at the end of the two weeks of the Challenge. Participants may not enter commute data for future days (aka: days after the day log in). They may only enter present and past commute info.

    How Participants Win:
Participants will be given one entry for each Commute Solution they record. Each of the daily entries counts as a separate entry into the prize drawing. A maximum of three entries can be entered per day (1 for work commute, 1 for lunch commute, 1 for business commute), giving a maximum of 42 individual Commute Solution entries for the entire two weeks of the Challenge. Individual entries will be entered into a random drawing for prizes. The more entries per participant, the higher the chance to win.

    Prizes:
CAMPO reserves the right to offer alternate prizes at the same value.

Prizes will be announced on the week of September 22-26, 2008. Contest participants may only win one prize. WINNERS MUST PICK UP THEIR PRIZES NO LATER THAN ONE WEEK AFTER THEY ARE NOTIFIED THAT THEY WON. FAILURE TO PICK UP PRIZE WILL RESULT IN FORFEITURE OF THAT PRIZE.

    Employer Awards:
There will also be Employer Awards for employers who have the high totals and percentage of employees participating in the Challenge. The three employer categories are as follows:
Government Employer/Agency with the highest number of participating employees
Business Employer with the highest number of participating employees
Employer with the highest percentage of employees that participate (minimum of 5 25 employees)

Eligible employers must be located within the 5-County Area (Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson Counties), and participating employees must live or work within the same 5-County Area.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO IDENTIFY WHERE YOU WORK SO YOUR EMPLOYER CAN QUALIFY TO WIN AN AWARD. IF YOUR EMPLOYER IS NOT LISTED IN THE DROP DOWN BOX, PLEASE CONTACT MARIA CAMINOS @ 512-974-
